GETTING STARTED
First things first: sign up for a free account. Then you’ll be directed to Find a Book or Find a Group. Picking a book or a Group (Groups always revolve around a book) will let you open the Reader and start reading and communicating. You can see more on the How This Works. Contact Us if you have additional questions.

We support modern browsers with Javascript enabled. The Unbound Reader requires Firefox 2+, Safari 2+, Chrome, Flock 2 or IE 8. If you don't feel like taking a few seconds to download one today you can still access a text version of the book.

HOW DOES THE READER WORK?
READING
Since you choose a book before you enter the reader, the minute you click the Jump Into the Reader button you’re inside a book and ready to go. If you’ve read part of this book before, it will return you to the same page. If it’s a new book you’ll start right at the beginning. Navigational tools to move through the book are along the bottom.
PROXIMITY CHAT
Proximity chat is a unique way to have contextual discussions. Use the dropdown at the top of the Talk panel to limit the messages you receive — from users anywhere in the book to only users reading the same section that you are.

ANNOTATIONS
You can make annotations inside any book, directly inside the Reader. Just click on the right-hand tab labeled MARK. Anyone can respond to an annotation, and annotations can spark great discussions.

CAN I VIEW MY ANNOTATIONS OUTSIDE OF THE READER?
You can view your own annotations in the Manage Your Account section, under View My Annotations. From here you may print your annotations in a list, or delete annotations you’ve made. Remember that if you delete your annotations, though, you may delete other users’ responses to your annotations, and kill the conversation.

CAN I ACCESS ARCHIVED CHATS?
Book Glutton does not archive chat sessions. Just like any in-person book discussion, the chats happen in real time.

The Reader is free, and we plan to keep it that way. The features that appear now should always be free for public domain content.

You always own the copyright to your uploads, and we keep them secure on the Book Glutton server. That said, anything posted on the Internet can be read, meaning your uploaded content and the ideas contained therein are out there for people to read.

No, we keep your information private. After all, we’d hope you’d do the same for us, if the shoe was on the other foot.

WHAT ARE GROUPS?
IF I START A GROUP CAN I DELETE IT?
Go to the Manage Your Account page and then follow the links to Manage Your Groups. When editing the details for a Group you own, you have the option to delete it. Be careful, though. Once you delete a group you affect a number of other members. We recommend just leaving the Group up for archiving purposes and starting another one if you want to change things significantly.
WHY DO I NEED TO PICK A BOOK TO START A GROUP?
Since you can’t ever have a Group without a book in it, it makes sense to pick a book first, when you’re just kicking things off.

CAN I CHANGE MY GROUP'S BOOK?
Yes. Go to the Manage My Groups page and edit it there. Moreover, when you create a Group and select a book you can add an expiration date, so people know when you’re going to stop reading a particular book and move on to the next.

HOW DO I JOIN A GROUP?
Just like any club, you need to ask. Just go to any Group’s detail page and there should be a button to request access. If there’s enough room, you’ll probably get in.

Yes – it is added to the catalog as an “Upload.”

Yes, but be careful. There might be people reading it who would be terribly disappointed.
