Kelsey O'Donnell Comment #2: Roger Chillingworth does not look at Hester any differently now that she has told him this. He confesses to her that he does not have the powers that everyone talks about and tells him he has. After something dark has happened things after that will continue to happen, but you just have to except that a move forward. Hester should not place blame on Dimmesdale for what he has done to her because he is not sinful for doing that. It is her own fate and she will most likely have to deal with this problem for the rest of her life. Chillingworth directs Hester to let the problem work itself out and not worry about it because there is nothing she can do to make it better or take it away. He also encourages her to go on with her life no differently than she would normally due to the fact that she can not change things or go back and redo what has already been done.

Kelsey O'Donnell's Comment #1: Hester has finally decided to tell Chillingworth about her connection with Dimmesdale. Here Hester is stating that she feels like Dimmesdale is in her hands because she has caused him to do this wrong doing that in turn he will have to pay the punishment for like she did but no one knows what the results of his punishment will be. Later in the passage Hester says that there is no good for him, Pearl, or herself. I think she says this out of anger and frustration. She has been holding this in for a long time and finally everything has come out. There is a possibility that Chillingworth could take the statement, "do with him as thou wilt!" the wrong way and harm him. I think that when Hester says this she is not meaning it literally but figuratively. She is comparing the state of life that they are in as a maze that they have no hope of getting out of.
