VAL A change : candide seems to be changing from a philosopher to a man who helps bring death upon people. Although his logic is clear, his experiences have made him experience and feel comfortable with sin

VAL A after all that: not only does the sailor kill james w inaction but now he drinks and pays for sex so this probably represents the destruction of good for evil and sin saying that the world is not balanced perfectly and for the best

VAL A pretty ridiculous: so pangloss has a horrible disease because it was meant to be...otherwise there would be no chocolate and no new world. You can always come up with a reason for something happening but is it really an effect of some cause? theres no way to prove that
Candide

VAL A questioning : hes finally questioning whether this world truly is the best possible world so basically hes begun re learning philosophy
Candide

really ironic: theyre punishing him for his free will and hes bound to something he doesnt necessarily believe in(the king of bulgaria) just like how people are bound to societies ideas and are forced to conform

giving up: hes very willingly giving up his free will and choice cause he believed in the love he had for cunegonde but these 2 guys almost bribed him to believe in the king of the bulgarians instead
