APPETITE
I enjoy an eclectic mix of character-driven fiction in many genres. As an author myself, I also read a lot of non-fiction in many subject areas. But in fiction, the most important story element is characterization: convincing characters, complex interactions between characters, character-driven conflict... and happy endings. I want heroes I can sympathize with and who come through in the end. Some of my favorite books of all time: The Adventures of Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn, by Mark Twain, The Moon is a Harsh Mistress, by Robert A. Heinlein, Tales of Pirx the Pilot (and More Tales...), by Stanislaw Lem. I enjoy most of what these authors have written, as well as Holly Lisle, Harlan Ellison, and Ann Brashares.YaTimK
