kschanz City of Anywhere Planet Earth
Beauty and Disaster: Isn't this the truth....Treasure Island....a beautiful tropical, Caribbean Island...filled with beautiful plants, flowers and animals...but what a nightmare. The sea was never quite....The island is full of corruption and evil....desire and disapointment...How quickly a beautiful island can become a destructive, war zone when men become savages and lose their morals and values for materialistic things.
Benn Gunn: I enjoyed reading the introduction of Ben Gunn into the story. I found it very easy to understand and and very easy to imagine....HIm hinding behind a tree...continuing to pop out, Ben probably hadn't seen another human in a few years at the very least so I'm sure he was very curious. I also like this part alot because going back to the end and knowing that Ben Gunn had already claimed the treasure....reading about and meeting Ben Gunn for the first time here...I NEVER would have imagined or considered he was a threat to finding the treasure.
Savages...: okk It's crunch time....The guys have been on the voyage for a while now...I doubt they have slept well, I doubt they have eaten well, everyone on this mission is starting to get a little irritable. Ok...maybe that's an understatement. Now the wild part is starting to come out of the men....the intense desire for this treasure is starting to get the best of everyone and alot of men are loosing their character and their true colors are coming out. Seriouslly....some of them are starting to kill each other!
Get em Silver: Well well well....Long John Silver....how can you not put a little faith in the guy after a response like that?? He is so convincing....maybe a slime-ball...but Silver is definetly a seaman with experience.
Foreshadowing: This conversation, to me, feels quite uneasy and uncomfortable. First off...not all of these mens traveling together on this ship know each other and hardly any of them trust each other. So.....they are all out for one thing: the treasure and there is a plethora of disloyalty in the air....I'm feeling alot of foreshadowing.
Desire: Is it not sooooo obvious how hungry for treasure these men are??? So Jim discovers the treasure map...brings it to Trelawney and Livesey and now Trelawney is telling Livesey the doctor...umm pretty much forget your job...we have a treasue to find! This shows...when desire is present...people will give up alot of things...for work...for instance.
Bingo: To me...this is a HUGE turning point in the tale. "Bulk of Treasure Here" Yes! When I read this...I knew....ok the adventure is about to begin....the treasure map has been found and now two worthy townsmen have read the treasure map and know where the treasure is buried.....This is the beginning of the adventure!
Father's Death: I personally find it strange, what a minor part Jim's father's death was. I understand that the story was about a treasure and pirates...I also understand the story is not about Jim's family, yet I found it a little weird when Jim's father died...it was pretty much nothing. Interesting.....
Suspense: Is it just me or are you sitting on the edge of your seat? I love the suspense here. I feel so bad for Jim. Putting my self in his shoes...how scared would you be>? Creepy pirate walks in your house! I enjoy this part because I find it very suspenseful...I am dying to know what happens next.
Description: I love this paragraph! Imagining the dreadful stories (something that I don't think anyone of us can relate to in our time...definetly not a time of pirates...In Florida atleast...) It is a fun paragraph to read and imagine storms at sea and walking the plank. Pirates are of course a fantasy yet a fun, adventurous thing to think of.
