TABLE TALK
No one has posted to this glutton's wall. Sad Glutton. You can be first by typing something above.PUBLIC NOTES
Was there worse?: In the last sentence it says that there is some untold. Does this mean that there could have been worse accounts? It says she tried to show the best and worst phases, but what if there was worse? How much worse could it get? It is hard, and saddening, to think that there could be worse, but human nature can be extremely wicked at times.

FREEDOM!: The slaves of the Shelby's are finally free, but freedom is not what they want the most then. They like living with the Shelbys, and George keeping his promise to set the slaves free probably just makes them feel more loved. There are times in our lives where we want something so much, but when we finally get it we find it is not what we really wanted.

Pride: It is important to have some pride in what nationality you are. It should not be a pride that is sinful. I have a friend who take a lot of pride in his nationality, many a little overboard at times. His pride sometimes makes him, as he calls it, a "supremist," which is pretty much saying that he is being "racist." This is a type of pride that would be wrong. George shows a pride in his African nationality that he is willing to suffer with the rest of his people. This type of pride shows that he cares for his people. Showing that you care can be a great comfort to those who are maybe struggling. How do you view your ethnicity? Is it with pride, or with empathy?

Hero or Criminal?: Doing right by doing wrong. A statement that is not often thought about thoroughly, but is practiced many times. Is it really wrong to be doing good, or right, through means that is not right? Is a person a hero that has to go out and kill? Is a person a criminal, who has to go out and steal to save a life? This line for many people has become blurred. In society people have taken their views of this and either declare people heroes or criminals. During the time this book was written, there were people that hide runaway slaves and lied about them being there. Is that being a hero or being a criminal, because by law they were suppose to turn back runaway slaves? Morally, we all decide what we think is right about this. (This is not to rant about people who have to do this because they believe it is right, but to have people think about what they believe.)

Coping: We all go through times where we go to a comfort item or activity that gets our mind off of things. For Legree it is drinking, he always drunk, but not he is drinking even more. When situation are hard or get worse, we tend to try to cope with it in our own ways. For me that can be playing games on my computer sometimes. How do you cope with hard times? Trying to cope with things our own ways may bring us temporary satisfaction, but God is the one who can truly comfort us.

Last words: Tom's final words had meaning in them. It makes me wonder what I would want to say as my last words. Also what I would want to be remembered for. Tom was a good Christian; he loved everyone, even his enemies. All that knew him looked up to him in some respect, but yet he died beaten and left in a shed.

Power of words: They say "actions speak louder than words." Although that may be true, words can be powerful too sometimes. When used correctly, speech can have a very powerful message or effect. There are those in the world to have a good grasp on this and are able to move thousands with what they say. That does not mean that a low uneducated person cannot have powerful speech, but that some speech is empowered by things beyond humans, God.

Hatred: "The enemy of my enemy is my friend." This saying could show how Sambo and Quimbo are able to work together. They get along, but are always competing to get better with their master. When they both have a common enemy, normally another slave, they are able to take out their anger on them. In Tom's case, they both hate him, so they are both willing to work to crush Tom.

Hide and go seek: It is always satisfying when you are able to hide and see people just run around past you. It bring a joy/pride that you are able to outsmart them as to your location. In hide-and-go-seek, it gets harder to stay quiet when you see several people just run past you completely oblivious that you could be there. Cassy and Emmeline are surely happy that everyone is just running around in the swamps looking for them.

Peace: Tom is finally at peace again with what is going on. He is given strength by God, and is able to go about his duties with that renewed strength.
