Um Blattpflanzen mit Erfolg im Zimmer kultivieren zu können, d. h. sie zur höchsten Entwickelung zu bringen, ist es nötig, daß man im Auge behält, daß es die Blätter sind, welche, und zwar nur im Lichte, die Hauptmasse der festen Pflanzensubstanz, den Kohlenstoff, aus der Luft in Gestalt von Kohlensäure, aufnehmen und aus dieser den Kohlenstoff abscheiden. Ohne Licht ist diese Arbeit der Blätter nicht möglich.
