Na penumbra, me espreguiço e sento no carpete da laje. Gosto de dormir ali, naquele chão da borda superior da concha da câmara dos deputados. Observo lá embaixo o centro iluminado com suas poltronas em semicírculo e a cortina atrás da mesa como uma cachoeira do teto da concha até o chão. A cortina, antes com vinte e nove retângulos inúteis, agora é um grande painel onde milhões de pequenos rostos se revezavam, apresentando cada brasileiro que delibera naquele momento. Tal qual uma arena de gladiadores romanos, agora a batalha na plenária se dá entre os hologramas projetados por discos pretos em cada poltrona, assistidos por uma platéia invisível espalhada pelo mundo afora.

Em Nova York, um formigueiro humano fervilha por dezenas de quarteirões do Queens Plaza até as margens do rio Herlem. As águas são escuras, o ar é pesado, malcheiroso e quente. Os galpões industriais foram transformados em acampamento. Milhares de pessoas afunilam-se na ponte Queensboro, ocupando-a completamente. Outra multidão, bem menor, bloqueia o acesso à ilha de Manhattan.
