Favorites tend to be stark novels like those of Cormac McCarthy or Hemingway. I also like books with a nautical edge. I'm a big fan of Fishboy by Mark Richard, Far Tortuga by Peter Matthiessen, The Raw Shark Text by Steven Hall. Also a fan of magical realism or novels with a mythic quality: Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Mark Helprin, Herman Hesse come to mind.
